"In the mid 30’s, Caproni began work on the next evolution of the Ca.97 series designs to meet a Regia Aeronautica requirement for a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft. Apart from the new engine and the synchronized machinegun, the Ca.127 was little different from its predecessors - it retained the shoulder-mounted wing, fixed landing gear, four defensive guns, and mixed construction. For the reconnaissance role, it was fitted with a camera controlled from the cockpit. Taking flight in 1935, the Ca.127 proved to be a failure. The archaic design was incapable of meeting Regia Aeronautica requirements, and thus was rejected."
