Article headline in today's New York Times. I've never thought: "You know, what Kurdistan needs is a hiking trail." No link, I hope for obvious reasons.

Just a modern version of the old silk road ... for well-heeled tourists.

Has any one noticed that many current wars are being fought along the old silk road ... er drug smuggling routes linking Afghanistan with Western Europe: Afghanistan, Iran, Kurdistan, Iraq, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, etc.??????

I never understood who was financing the 1990s civil war in the former Yugoslavia until I remembered all the recreational drugs and sex slaves being smuggled through the Balkans.
American police woman who served in the former Yugoslavia as a U.N. peacekeeper.

It will take China to calm that down and have an interstate through there. You’ll hear them coming with seismographs.
