In 1970 the British Army in the UK had to abandon a two Division force in UK because of the troubles in Northern Ireland.
After the withdrawal from Aden and Malaysia a NATO focussed force of 3 and 5 Division was planned for the 70s. It might have provided BAOR with more reinforcements and even the basis for UK II Corps.
The mishandling by the UK of Northern Ireland in the 60s was a blessing for the Kremlin.

The more accurate phrase is simply "the mishandling of Ireland", and frankly the date is wrong too.

Something was bound to happen during the 60's considering the state of affairs there.

I do not want to discuss Ireland here, the point of this thread is to consider the shape of BAOR and its reinforcements
if the crisis had not occurred. As in all what-ifs, I am assuming this as a given.
