An interesting line: Drach states that the Brandenburg battleships were originally intended to have a main battery composed of the 35 caliber 11" guns they had amidships, and only during construction were the fore and aft turrets given 40 caliber guns. They could have had a uniform main battery of 6 heavy guns in the 1890s!

Yes... but that was pretty pointless. Those ships were build in adherence to 1880s doctrines and concepts; the idea was basically to fight a short-range combat with heavy guns capable of penetrating enemy armor belts as main argument. By 1890s, such doctrine became outdated due to progress in quick-firing medium-caliber artillery.
