I have just found a copy I made of a picture on the old Aerospace Projects Review site of a Boeing swing wing aircraft looking like a Grumman Mohawk but flatter. Confusingly there is a side view drawing in Internavia from about 1962 showing a Republic (I think) vstol pair, one of which is like the early AVS design and the other like the Mohawk. I must try and find this as I think it is a miscaption of a Boeing handout rather than Republic.

This sounds highly intriguing.
Hope we will see the results of your search ;D

Success!

I have six designs from that effort, thought not that *precise* design. Ranged from dull turboprop to something that looks like the bastard offspring of a Mohawk and an F-111.

If *only* someone would subscribe to APR, I'd find it in my heart to scan & post....

Ahem. Ahem.

Ahem. Ahem.

Hell if you'd scan and post all your Pluto/SLAM stuff I'd buy it today. ;D (Like you did with the B-1, Snark, Saturn, etc.)

Indeed so. As a reward (as if APR wasn't reward enough):

Hi,

In Aerofiles site they spoke about Boeing-837 as rumored swing-wing
close-air support project for the Army to replace Mohawk.

Interesting find gents!

But this VG-wing design seemed very complicated = expensive for such basic role in which it was to have served!

Pioneer

In the context of 1960 I think VG was thought of as a universal panacea, the cost/benefit analysis not yet clear.

And yet look at how progressive was the thinking of the U.S. Army in the early 1960's. A far cry from the convention of today.

Its been a while since anyone posted here. I am still interested in a three view of the swing wing version and also what other proposals were made?

Based on the model photos and comparison with the other designs of this series,
source grade 2. Anybody who has the full designation ?

(Corrected, thanks Sundog ! ;) )

That looks great. There is one slight error with the multi-views; in the bottom view, the wing tip should be clipping out the stabilizer, since the stabilizer is higher than the wing. Just saying. Nice work. :)

It sort of reminds me of the Spector Gunship on the Command and Conquer Generals PC Game ::)
