Hi,

here is a Beriev patent for Deck-Based AWACS aircraft, was it a real
design or not ?.

Designers of the Beriev Aircraft Scientific Center (Taganrog, Russia) have patented a deck/land-based low-signature jet equipped with round-scanning antennas and capable to ski-jump off a carrier, reports the website of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.

"Chmyrev explained that the patent registration itself does not mean active works on a new airplane: "It can be a simple intention of designers to register a scientific achievement. It will not necessarily result in anything", he concluded."

So, as the article says, it is a system or concept to operate from ski-jump equipped carriers.
No idea whether Beriev is designing a project of the particular airframe illustrated, nor if there is even a formal requirement.

Absolutely. And that is the purpose of applying for a patent, most of the time. To make sure a certain design is registered and therefore protected by law, not necessarily because you want to use it, but to make sure that others don't claim the idea as theirs.
So, to answer the initial question, OF COURSE it is a design, since it was DESIGNED by engineers. However, it was not a PROJECT.

'Design' is a word which covers a multitude of sins. It can be a feasibility design for a particular concept, in which case, it's liable to be full of mystery boxes like 'Payload Goes Here' and 'Engines Go There'. Or it can be a full production design, requiring only the addition of materials and skilled workers to create a working example.

Life gets really fun when the full production design still has mystery boxes on it.

Interesting and clean design indeed - both aerodynamically and electro spectrum wise.

Beriev has seemingly always been happy to design outside the traditional square.

Without a radome either above or under the fuselage, such a design would make storage in a carrier hanger somewhat easier.

I also can't help think that such a design could be the basis of other carrier-based roles such as a dedicated ASW, EW and tanker.....
