This was intended for research (both technical and medical) into a projected USAF requirement for a 'self-manoeuvring system for orbital workers'. Consisted of a life support subsystem, maintenance equipment (tools), and a propulsion and control subsystem. Flight tests of a test article were carried out on a large airbearing platform and aboard a C-123 acting as a vomit comet. It built on the progress made by it's immediate predecessor, the SRLD [Small Rocket Lift Device] (Bell Rocket Belt). Bell were aiming for a propulsion unit that could substain a trust of 15 pounds (for the test article), and an overall total system weight of not more than 65 pounds (less if possible).
