One source says that on arrival in Britain in Dec 1943, an RN report noted she had defects in her shell and cordite handling gear which made her unsuitable for use as a bombardment ship. It was decided not to repair those defects and she was reduced to Reserve at Rosyth in Feb 1944, before being transferred to the USSR on 31st May, but that is another story.

By June 1944 she was only partially manned, with only enough gunnery personnel to man two of her four 15in turrets. At one point off Normandy A turret developed a fault and the crew moved to B turret.
