Asymmetric Trijet Airliner Model

It looks to me that the model pictured is set up to study an arrangement for transporting an engine. That method of transporting engines has been used with other airliners.
 
From the text: " ... during the fall semester of 2000, a group of KU students built an RC version of such an asymmetric tri-jet. Figure 146 shows that model which is a modified Airbus 310 model. The trick is to place the engines so that the inherent yawing and rolling moments due to engine placement are zero. In that model we were constrained by structural considerations. This resulted in the number 2 engine being closer to the fuselage than would be desirable in an actual airplane. "
