What do you think are the most realistic numbers for detection range for APG-73 radar? I have seen numbers like 60-80 nm, and they must be for fighter size target. Then in a one book written by ex. Finnish test pilot, is said that the range is almost 250 km (135 nm). If that is real number (I doubt it) it must be for bomber size target. But to me it seems to be too positive number for APG-73. It is said that number is from open sources. If you have good books about it, please tell me what kind of numbers there are. I know that radar range is complicated subject, but lets see what there is.

That’s probably max detection range but not necessarily lock on range. As I understand in the Finnish evaluation the APG-73 out preformed RDY on the mirage which has similar lock on range to the 60-80nm you describe. So that probably what that all means.

Those numbers are all detection ranges. Lock on ranges are lower. I just read about those old evaluations and in the evaluation the BAE Hawk was used as a target. Also that 250 km number is from open sources, not inside info.
