Eh, I wouldn't take the RM8 as much of a basis for J52 development. The Swedes almost entirely redesigned the JT8D to make it suitable for supersonic flight - it got new fans, turbines, fuel control, and a new combustion chamber.However, there was one afterburning variant, designed by the Chinese for the Sabre II project. That one was 12,000 lbs dry and 16,000 lbs wet, about the thrust output of the later Avon variants.
