In the late 1800s, the Whitehead and it's basic outline was only one of the interesting hullforms (idk if that's the right word for it) tried and tested by various nations. Beginning on page 13 (first link), we can see some American examples, 2 of which were powered by rockets. The Cunningham in particular is notable for it's (mis)use in a rather destructive incident that may or may not have fit the definition of a terrorist attack.
