Hi fellows,
in a recent press-conference (July Last) Mr. Giuseppe Giordo, former CEO of Alenia North America and recently promoted chairman of Alenia Aeronautica, stated that: "...the (Alenia Aermacchi) M-346, that now in America is called T-100...".
Naturally, T-100 should be a commercial designation of the M-346 Master, in view of a forthcoming requirement from USAF for a T-38 Talon replacement. For the program Alenia Aeronautica is already in talk with Boeing but, according to Eng. Carmelo Cosentino of Alenia Aermacchi, a partnership with Northrop Grumman cannot be ruled out.
Evidently, choosing the T-100 label the Italian manufacturer subtend the message that its aircraft (maintaining of the name Master for the US market is for the moment unconfirmed) is twofold better than the main competitor, the Lockheed-Martin/KAI T-50 Golden Eagle!
As we all remember, the M-346 is a redesign of the Russian Yakovlev Yak-130.
