In 1949 , in Finland , Mr Alanne and Mr Swahn fitted a Schneider-Grunau Baby with an engine : who could help with a photo or drawing ?

Thanks

Richard

Thank you for the info , but I am not sure the Pik 10 and the Alanne are the same : at least , they are very similar conversion of the Baby , same year , same land … but the designer is not the same ...

You might be right, but it seems pretty unlikely that there are two different Finnish 1949 motor conversions of the Grunau Baby out there. The J2mcl site lists the name Carl Stunde under designer and nothing under builder, but I suspect that there is some confusion between the builders and designers. Here is a site with more pics - http://www.iwaru.fi/galleries/OH-PXA/ - and a .pdf of the contemporary Flight magazine article, though it mentions no names. Do we have any Finnish members who might be able to shed some light on this?

You are certainly right : even the engine ( a french Poinsard ) and the U.C ( similar to Piper Cub ) were the same if I believe my very short description ….

Friends!
I think that the Stunde aircaft (OH-PXA) and the Alanne aircraft are two different designs, albeit both based on the KA-4 Rhönlerche II glider.
I understand that OH-PXA is usually reported as the PIK-10 PAUKKULAUTA(or Moottorribaby)and built by Mr. Carl Stude and members of the Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerkho RY (PIK), the Helsinki University Flying Club. Original engine said to be a 17hp Aubier Dunne, which later replaced by the 28hp Poinsard. OH-PXA first flew 27 March 1949.
The Alanne Motorlerche (Mootori-Lerche?) was a conversion developed by Mr. Pentii Alanne and the aircraft (OH-225?) first flew 10 August 1973. Engine was a 50hp Barker/VW1500.
It seems that several additional similar aircraft were completed in Finland with various engines and often with (minor) changes. I know of OH-213X, OH-208X, OH-252X, OH-651X
Comments/remarks welcomed!
Best, Walter

Sorry!
The PIK-10 was of course a modified Grunau Baby II and not a modified Rhönlerche :-[
