Apart from the legendary DC3 the C130 Hercules must have the title of most important and hard to replace airlifter.
So had Lockheed not come up with it, what would the world have been using for the last 70 years?
The Europeans had the Transall C130.
The UK had the Shorts Belfast and various unbuilt designs.
Not so up on the US candidates..
