The 4468 Mallard Is Such a Badass Train, and Not Just Because It Went 126 mph
The A4 “Pacifics” were the pinnacle of steam locomotive design, and the Mallard was the alpha of the pack.
There's a group trying to build a replica Pennsylvania Railroad class T1, who then intend to use it to break Mallard's record.Still the fastest steam train and I cannot see that changing.
Even if they fail to break the record we still get a 1940s Streamliner out of it.That will be a treat to see.
I remember reading somewhere that back in the 1980s Mallard was one of two locomotives, the other being Flying Scotsman that were used in British Rail adverts. Both reputedly had identical content, but only the Flying Scotsman advert survives on YouTube...
