Happy Xmas all and 4 decades ago on this day well 26th rendlesham forest incident between Twin bases of RAF Woodbridge (home of then 67th Aerospace Recovery & Rescue Squadron with HH53C Super Jolly Green Giant and HC-130H Combat Shadow and 81st TFW with A-10 Warthog) Bentwaters had other lot of 81st TFW with Warthogs).
Problem is there were way too many 2 plus 2 = 3.456 or 6.71 with theories, such as the 67th ARRS presence as their secondary role ( apart from CSAR ) supporting NASA manned missions recovery of capsule (there was one mock up capsule used for practise on base).
Only NASA hadn’t launched Apollo for near a decade as the Shuttle began missions in 79/80.
Then recently apparently our 22nd SAS (Special Air Service) were the culprits of the incident getting incident getting their own back at the Security Forces Squadron for previous exercise which involved the weapons storage area. It was said that 22md used stealth parachutes (??) during the time.
Btw I don’t buy the story that the WSA stored bucket of Sunshine as the A-10 Warthog isn’t configured for B-61 but few years earlier the 81st had F-4D Phantom which was. Phantom went out and A-10 came in. Plus Bentwaters had only a few igloos whereas likes of the other USAFE bases RAF LakenHeath, RAF Upper HeyFord and even RAF Alconbury had larger Special igloos for buckets Of sunshine amongst their WSA.
Anyhow went for walkies the other year on the UFO trail ...
