I had thought it would be based on a MANPAD, but that looks like a new missile type to me.

Not too surprising, as MANPADS are really poorly suited to countering small drones. IR seekers aren't great for battery-powered drone targets that don't get all that hot, and impact fuzing is not suitable for such small targets. (Stinger added a prox fuze, but it's still a stopgap at best)

Separated mini-missiles that have nothing to do with current events, since their development started long before.

I'm curious on why there is a feedhorn for a supposedly an AESA engagement radar.

Some sort of "Two band" operation where the feedhorn is for higher band while the AESA is for lower band ?

It's new; the feed horn doesn't appear on older versions of Pantsir.

How long ago? The issue of countering small drones isn't all that new; it's been gaining steam since at least the early 2000s and especially since 2012.

It is and that's what makes it interesting. This is an old clipping from a Russian media on the new engagement radar for Pantsyr SM dated from 2017. This mentions that the new radar is an AESA (AFAR).

an active array or earlier pantsyr's passive phased array have no requirement for feedhorn. It is in fact detrimental as it introduces sidelobes and act as obstruction.
But then there is that Pantsyr-SM.

Quite a few years. By "recent events" I meant fighting of last few month, where quite a few Pantsirs were lost and which was mentioned by TS.

Российские ЗРПК "Панцирь-С" сбили в Ливии 47 турецких дронов Bayraktar TB2 (avia.pro)

"Turkish drones have indeed managed to disable a significant number of Russian-made systems: in May this year, up to nine Panziris were destroyed in just four days. However, this number is more proof of the intensity of the collisions than the shortcomings of the air defence system. According to some reports, the number of Bayraktars killed in 2020 is 47. Most of the Turkish UAVs were shot down by the Panziers in the Abu Greir, Sirt and Bani Walid areas, which PNE and Turkey-linked media are reluctant to mention,"the newspaper said."

Nevertheless, 9 Pantsir-S complexes were lost on the territory of Libya, which was rather due to the extremely active actions of the Turkish side, however, according to the Arab publication, the losses of the Turkish Bayraktar are much more significant.

If pantsir-s1s for export sell for 13.15 million dollars and Turkey contract with Ukraine sells for 5 million dollars each does that mean Turkey lost twice the amount of money Libya did? I take it that country does not have long range air defense coverage for those systems. Also.

Источник рассказал, когда завершатся испытания комплекса ПВО "Панцирь-СМ" - РИА Новости, 03.03.2020 (ria.ru)

State tests of the latest anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex "Panzir-SM" will be completed in 2021, a source in the defense-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the new complex will receive a missile with more than twice the increased speed (three thousand meters per second vs. 1.3 thousand meters per second of the rocket 57E6E of the Panzir-C1 complex).

This allows the system to target targets at a range of up to 75 kilometres. Thus, the target range of the Panzir-SM complex will increase to 40 kilometers - twice as much as "Panzir-C1".

Anyone got information on that new interceptor missile?

Pantsir-sm was also claimed to target PGMs and drones which besides speed also explains the thinner 2nd sustainer stage on the missile along with the enhanced radar performance.

Although I wonder what is the max speed of targets it can handle on whatever the designer is referring to. Конструктор "Панциря": комплекс доработали для борьбы с мини-беспилотниками - ТАСС (tass.ru)

What changes have been made to Panzir to fight against such goals?

"We have adapted the location tools for the detection and precise accompaniment of low-visibility targets. Our new missile doesn't have a homing head, only a striking part. If we already see the target of the radar station of the combat vehicle, we are guaranteed to undermine the combat part in the path of the drone, and the field of shrapnel will securely cover it.

I want to note that drones for "Panzir" - not the main goal. Panzir is designed in such a way that it fights missiles, mines, cruise missiles, tactical ballistic and hypersonic missiles."

"The NATO Air Force Joint Center of Excellence, led by US Air Force Europe and Africa Commander Jeffrey Lee Harrigian, has released a report on the organization of air defense. Studying the air defense systems, the authors of the document admitted that the Russian Pantsir-S air defense missile defense system is the best weapon to defeat all types of drones.

The report says that the data of the air defense missile system was originally created for point object protection from enemy aircraft and helicopters, as well as to cover long-range air defense systems from high-precision weapons... The characteristics incorporated into the complex allowed the Pantsir to successfully fight drones."

"At the beginning is necessary to repeat, as i've already done several times, that not a single formation or base of the Federation's Armed Forces is equipped with Панцирь-С1 simply because is prohibited by law to employ export versions in the rank of domestic forces.

Domestic formations and structures are protected exclusively by Панцирь-С and lately (including Хмеймим air base in Syria) by Панцирь-СM ; the latter show not only a new tracking and detection АФАР radar with almost double the detection and tracking range and enormously improved jamming rejection threshold and modern air-delivered decoy discerning capabilities, but above all new interceptors missiles with double the engagement range (40 km against 20 km) and hypersonic maximum speed (3000 m/s against 1300 m/s of the former interceptors).

The new interceptors moreover employ a new and improved defeating mechanism (on the basis of programed detonation of the warhead with programed formation of a swarm of fragments in the path of the incoming aircraft/UAV/PGM/helicopter) renouncing to contact sensors to cope with future hypersonic ammunitions."

Found something interesting on the Pantsir.

Hopefully better improvements when the newer systems have basically twice the radar and weapon range than previous versions.

Israeli fighter jets fired eight guided missiles at an area southeast of Syria’s Aleppo, seven of them were intercepted by the Pantsyr-S and Buk-M2 systems of Russian manufacture, Vadim Kulit, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, said on Tuesday.

"In a span from 23:39 to 23:51 on July 19, four F-16 fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force entered Syria’s airspace via the US-controlled al-Tanf zone and fired eight guided missiles at facilities southeast of the city of Aleppo," he said.

According to Kulit, seven missiles were downed by the Russian-made Pantsyr-S and Buk-M2 systems that were on combat duty. One missile damaged the building of a research center in the settlement of Safira in the Aleppo governorate," he said.

The Dubai-based Al Hadath television channel reported earlier on Tuesday that Israel had delivered airstrikes at defense enterprises near al-Safira. According to Al Hadath, strikes were also delivered at weapons depots belonging to pro-Iranian Shia units fighting on the part of the Syrian army. Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen television channel reported that a research center near Aleppo was a target of airstrikes.

DUBAI, November 14. /TASS/. Countries of the Middle East are interested in the Russian upgraded antiaircraft missile and gun system (AAMGS) Pantsir-S1M, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev told TASS at the Dubai Airshow 2021.

"In the first instance, [the interest is in] the AAMGS Pantsir-S1M, developed in particular to counter air threats in the form of small-size low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)," Shugaev said.

Russia offers a wide range of anti-drone equipment to potential foreign partners, the official said. "We currently also offer other integrated solutions for this matter to our partner. Russian manufacturers have relevant competencies, which were supported by good results during the operation in the Syrian Arab Republic," he added.

Now officially: "Pantsir"-SM received 24 SAMs instead of 12 on "Pantsir"-S1

Additional 12 missiles installed instead of two 2A38M autocannon guns. Also target acquisition radar is removed.

But! "Classical" version with 12 SAM, autocannon guns and target acquisition radar will also remain.

Doesn't it need working ones (plus radar) before it gets new missiles? :D
