Yesterday I assisted a conference in Chartres, France : L'aviation militaire à Chartres, 1909-1953 (Military aviation in Chartres, France, 1909-1953). The conference was made by http://www.sael28.fr/ancre </A>.It appears that the choice to create a military school and airbase in Chartres was due to the existence of several civilian schools and aircraft manufacturers.

Some planes made here:
- Grégoire : 1909, wingspan = 10m, lenght = 12.5m, engine: Frini Berthaud, weight (gross?): 300 kg.
- Picquerez : 1909 biplane then modified in monoplane. The test pilot was Joseph Frantz, who was on the 5th of October 1914 the 1srt to shoot an aircraft.
- Savary : aircaft with 1 engine and 2 propellers moved using belts.
