Tony Buttler has informed me that Chris Farara, former Hawker Aircraft employee, compiler of the Hawker Association newsletter, occasional writer, and diligent archivist of the Brooklands Hawker archive, has passed away.
I can only speak from my own experience - Chris was a really nice man, who...

P.1224-1 from May 1983 was the first variant of the unmanned fighter aircraft (UFA) studies conducted at BAe Kingston during the 1980s. More info can be found in the recent Hawker's Secret Projects book.
I've just heard that Harrier and P1216 designer Ralph Hooper passed away yesterday.
He was 96, and in my view, Britain's greatest ever aircraft designer.
Ralph explained his achievements modestly but clearly to the many who asked.
Glad we asked him to do so for a video a few years back...

I have just heard, via the latest Hawker Association newsletter, that Roy Braybrook passed away last June.
Another of the great authors who got me, and probably many on this forum, interested in aircraft has gone to the great aviation library in the sky.
He was also, of course, a designer in...

Has anyone heard of a project named 'Sea Urchin'? Might be mine, munition, surveillance or related.
And I'm definitely not talking about 'Seewalze'. Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know of any thrust vector designs BAe worked on after the P1226
I believe Marconi worked on the X32 whilst BAe aupported the X35 - is this correct? I'm trying to work out when BAe abandoned the pegasus
thanks

A picture from an 80's military advertisement lead to these other two images. Interesting similiarities between the 25 year old ANS test vehicle and Taiwan's recent supersonic cruise missile. ;)

Over the years the STOVL ability of the Harrier has led to various proposals for ships for it to operate from.
First was the VT Harrier Carrier concept of the mid-1970s. 8,000 tons, c. 400ft length at WL, 420 ft flight deck with ski-jump.
Electric propulsion powered by 9x5000 hp gas turbine...

According to Key Publishing (I just hate this forum, so don't ask me why I browse there!) there had been studies for an improved concorde.

- another stage compressor on the engines
- 25% more range
- leading edge slats
- more fuel
Of course, this went to nothing because of the...
