but is Supervulcain B => EUROPA IIIE rocket proposal ???
that my question
I always liked SuperVulcain B because it is really the largest Diamant derivative and the real funny thing was, it was an Europa III or Ariane 1 class launcher. It would be really awesome to get Supervulcain, Europa and Ariane 1 side by side on a shelf.
Also, SuperVulcain was just big enough...
Great job ! I really, really want to see Supervulcain B for "real" that is a model of it. You can be pretty sure it will be a unique model in your collection or even in the world (Supervulcain B ? what's that ?)
What scale for your model, by the way ?
this is truly outstanding work, the quality is like a model
Actually does someone have bgire’s " The French National Space Programme 1950-1975" from JBIS 40 that he linked in the first post of this thread ? The link is dead
Supervulcain B seems to have 8*Valois, each giving 35 tons of thrust.
8*Diamant = 2*Blue Streak = 1*Ariane = 280 tons of thrust and 5000 kg in LEO. :)
8*Valois = 4*RZ-2 = 4*Viking.
The cluster of 8*Valois was called Octavie, what was build in the form of mockup was Catherine, a cluster of...
...proposal was Von Braun from year 1952 !

i found out that has nothing to do with Supervulcain B; But with ELGO !

thanks to Barrington Bond for info
...once was online for free, but this belongs to the past, unfortunately.
Long story short: the ultimate Diamant development project was SuperVulcain B: the size of a Soyuz rocket, and an alternative to the doomed Europa II when it ran in serious trouble in 1968.
Imagine 8, then 4, Diamant...
Hello Folks :)
Continuing my projects. Going to the last and biggest launchers: Bacchus and SuperVulcain, both of 1968.
Both shared a new first stage, called Octavie, which was a cluster of four Diane (from Carmen), each with two ejectors, making eight Vexin in total.
As with the Catherine...
Thanks for info Arichibald
this EUROPA IIIE proposal sound more like LRBA Supervulcain B rocket build from clustered tanks

And the laboratory itself has moved to Brittany thanks to the DGA (Brouz or bruz).
I was wrong, it was not Europa III-D but III-E.

There is an indirect legacy between Supervulcain B, Europa III-E, and OTRAG.
that Alternate History story were in June 1940 France moved its government and armies to Algiers and continue the War against germany

Vraiment bien. Du beau boulot.
The most impressive Diamant derivative ever imagined was the Supervulcain B, which rivalled a Soyuz or Ariane 1 in size. Do you plan to model that one ?

...if no Black Arrow or Diamant - they did wonders with Scout nonetheless).
Thanks to you, we will get, for the first time in history: Supervulcain B, Europa 2 and Ariane 1 side by side. And this is priceless !
I remember the moment when I discovered Supervulcain B in the Flight International...
...drawing the designs for the "LRBA projects" which will include: Mercure, Carmen, Vulcain C, Vulcain P, Vulcain H, Bacchus and.... SUPERVULCAIN B)
Works is now well advanced on Carmen. I'm working on the complex Vexin bays.
Two days ago I printed the "lower height" parts for the SEREB...
i knew it, i knew it ;D
there had to be a connection between Europa-IIIE and SuperVulcain B
the LRBA Vulcain was in focus of 1968-1970 German Spaceflight literature.
The Europa IIIE proposal must be the units on the Right size of Picture
i dig true my archive for more...
Thx for Info...
You mean Supervulcain B ? That was 100% french Plan B.
Now LRBA may have dusted it off for M.A.N and Europa III...
But only the first stage . A cluster of 8 was called Octavie. 4 modules was called Catherine and was mocked up in 1968.
... And the last but not the least: SuperVulcain (1968) of 363tons with a GTO capacity of 600kg, about the capabilities of Ariane 1.
First stage, enlarged Octavie, was to be a cluster of four Diane with lengthened tanks and eight modified Vexin engines.
Second stage, Catherine, was to be a...
...to the logical end of this, one could invent a full and entire LEGO family of french launchers, starting from Diamant and ending beyond Supervulcain.
Améthyste +solid-fuel upper stages (hello, Diamant)
Améthyste + solid + hydrogen
Améthyste + Coralie + hydrogen
Diane +solid-fuel upper...
