Wasn't the F-22 originally called the 'Lightning II', wouldn't that have been the F-23's name had it been chosen.
Incidentally, a Harpy Eagle is the largest raptor type bird that can hover (from what I've read). It would have been better to name the F-35 that name I think ---
I don't understand why they are still trying to go with a 'software' solution. It still doesn't solve the problem of the aircraft not flying safely if the software stops working for any other reason while the aircraft is in the air ----
I was reading somewhere, I think either google or...
Being in the steel fabrication industry, I've been quite familiar with that happening, especially when the industry standard was 'well - it's in the 1/4" tolerance' That was for each separate measurement BTW --
Even with the desperate situation Germany was in towards the end of the war, their ""new"" designs were going to take a few years before they went into service, I don't think the Allies were in any different situation.
IIRC in the book V-2 by Walter Dornberger, that's just about how they developed the V-2, full scale launches. It would launch (or maybe not), explode, then they would try to figure out what failed --
Well I bought enough Airfix kits of the Nimrod to make all the different variants when they first introduced it, I just didn't think it would be that hard to find detail drawing of the MR.4 after it got cancelled --- Plus styrene is easily cut up and modified ;)
What company did you work at...
Flew on one of those to a diamond mine which is near the Arctic Circle a few years ago. We landed and took off on a gravel runway. You can see the 'gravel kit' in the picture above. You actually see more of the -200's converted as freighters up there.
OOPs, should have watched the video first...
The book is fascinating to read Mike, I have a question though. Would you have any more info on the P.1214 line of variants? The model I have of it is the X wing plan form of it.
My copy was at the post office today Mike, thanks very much as it will greatly assist with building the 1/72 scale model I have of it. I might even have a go at the 2-seater variant with the forward fuel tanks on the booms.
OK, the Ki-38 is on the forum, look at the wind tunnel model, it's looks the same and has the same engine nacelles, only they're rotated up 180 degrees
