    A 20-pound Enterprise 1/350 scale model

The CultTVMan newsletter I got this morning has some news from Round 2, they'll be producing some 1/350 Klingon ships. And Revell have announced a new 1/500 Enterprise plus the old 1/600 kit too. Not being a total Startrek nut, I was curious as to the size the model OBB posted about, if I got...

    A 20-pound Enterprise 1/350 scale model

I was wondering, do you commission other people to build your kits OBB ?. And I would forgo the lighting kit, and the Photo Etch, maybe add the decal sheet, but even then $200 is better than $600.

    A 20-pound Enterprise 1/350 scale model

At CultTVMan you can get 1/350 Enterprises a lot cheaper than that. https://www.culttvmanshop.com/Classic-USS-Enterprise-TV-version-with-Pilot-Parts--1350-scale-from-Polar-LightsRound-2_p_6845.html

    Napier Sabre engines

Nice find Steelpillow, that sort of confirms something I discovered about the De Havilland DH.101, the so called Sabre Mosquito.

Vickers Wellington with very small wheels - Any ideas? - Dunlop "Compacta" tyre trials at Honiley 1945

I've read somewhere that was what they were for, to save using production wheels because of a shortage at the time. It might have been in an Air-Britain article.

A special model of Lockheed C-5

Not enough wheels for an An-124 or a C-5. And as I have a couple of 1/72 scale C-5's and trying to compare them with what I see in the photo, it's not a C-5 either.

    Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor

Interesting fuel tanks, I've been wondering why it hasn't been done already. It seems to me the most logical thing to do, so I've been building something like it for my models ----

    SpaceX (general discussion)

Agreed! But isn't it fluid that is flowing through that pipe ? I've seen it happen on construction sites my job used to take me to. They would be pumping out a flooded excavation, water going through it was fine, but when sludge starts getting sucked in, it doesn't flow so good. End result is...

    SpaceX (general discussion)

Another scenario is when you attach a pump that is too powerful for the pipe you attach it too, the pump starts to starve itself. If the pipe wall isn't strong enough it will collapse like in the photo too. It's still vacuum related though.

    SpaceX (general discussion)

It probably wasn't supposed to counter a vacuum, but a vacuum must have happened for the pipe to collapse like that. Anyone remember the old science experiment kids did with a metal can, where you boiled some water in it, took it off the burner and then screwed the top back on and then watch it...

    Weight saving I would think.

That is what happens to pipe when it can't handle a vacuum, I've seen similar collapses during my fabricating career. The stiffeners should have .been continuously welded

    Prop Aircraft conversions into Jets

Actually, they are much closer to P-51H wings although they added the wing root extensions. The tailplane were also much bigger that the P-51D, even bigger than the P-51H. The fin/rudder is the same size as the F-82 fin/rudder. Another aircraft that used this wing was the T-2 Buckeye. The image...

Western Artists' Concepts of Soviet aircraft during the Cold War

I had a quick look through this thread so excuse me if I missed a reference to this below. In the 1984 RAF Year Book there's an article on Soviet aircraft, with a raft of images. And while some of the images look right, there's a number of them which are not. Not sure if I'm allowed to scan...

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Years ago I bought this coffee mug off the LMS dealer, it's got the same photo on it. I've used it everyday in the hope numpty (our PM) got off his high horse and agreed to purchase the aircraft.

    Experimental 6" rocket?

I built a scale model of the Triplex shown here, drawing it out in AutoCad, three 3" rocket motors just fit perfectly inside a disc of 7.2" diameter.
