Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I was referring that his area encompasses mostly Boeing ------ who are on a 'buy our F-15' kick right now.

    RAF Puma Replacement?

Having seen a V-22 at the Yuma Airshow a few years ago where it did a demo flight right in front of the crowd, I'm not sure where all this 'it's very noisy' comes from, I thought it was really quite quiet while it went through it's hover display. One of the multitude of photos I took of it and...

    Avro Canada C-102 Jetliner

I would say it was because at the same time (about), Avro had the Tudor Mk.8 which is almost a dead ringer (I did say almost)

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

We see this argument with old aircraft being compared with new aircraft all the time. Does anyone have a chart which shows what the running costs were in the first couple of years of service for F-15's/F-16's, in todays money ? just for a comparison ---

The Atlantic's fuselage was as big as a 707's. My project below

    BAE SYSTEMS Nimrod MRA.4

Just an observation -- having the engines further away from the fuselage didn't help the 737 that was shot down by the Iranians ----

Anybody got drawings from the Hawker P.1004 project?

Some of the Henleys were light bombers, but there was a Henley long-range two-seat fighter, P.1003 Henley Escort Fighter then there were two other fighters, P.1007 Single-seat high Altitude Fighter and P.1008 Night Fighter although it doesn't say these two were Henleys. I can't find any other...

Anybody got drawings from the Hawker P.1004 project?

I was just reading about Hurricanes, Henleys, Tornado, Typhoons in Putmans (3rd edition) last night --- Hawker projects P.1001 to P.1003, P.1006 were all associated to the Henley, one being to B.7/40. Another was an escort fighter. Putmans says P.1004 was to F.7/40 so maybe another Henley project.

Explaining the high speed of the Tu-95

The engines were 15,000 shp weren't they ? I was reading up on the TP400 engines on the A400M the other day, it said that the 11,000 shp engines combined with the 8-blade propellers installed, produced 25,000 lb of thrust, so 100,000 lbs total. I would imagine with 15,000 shp and the same...

    Bristol Centaurus contraprops

Yes, later than 2006 but not just a year or so ago. I was trying to find out what the Centaurus engines were on the Vickers Type C bomber and I had posed the question to him. Probably around 2010 or later though.

    CASA 2.111 "Battle of Britain"

Back in the 80's, a CASA 2.111 and a B-17 visited Calgary International and for 10 bucks, I was able to tour both aircraft, inside and out. The one thing that boggled my mind was just how cramped it was in the 2.111.

    Bristol Centaurus contraprops

If anything test flew a contra-prop Centaurus it would have been the Folland Fo.108. Phil Buttler told me he'd seen photos of it fitted with a Sabre VIII (contra-prop Sabre VII). But what about the Curtiss XP-60C ?

    Martin Baker MB-3 and 4

He did in the end, the MB5 had one of the biggest fins of all the WWII single seat fighters. But you have to go back to the earlier models, his concept was just to have a tall flat sided fuselage with a rudder attached to the very rear end, ISTR it was to do with less drag
