I wonder, were there any projects to put a Turbo-prop engine on an Islander?
 
The BN-2T has had Allison/RR 250 turboprops for years.

What I would like to see is the version of the Trislander with an emergency rocket in case of engine failure, which is what I was looking for when I found these pictures. Like something from Thunderbirds!

The twin defender carried all kinds of weapons, including torpedoes.

My personal guess why the trimotor Defender wasn't built is because the BN-2T was instead. With more powerful engines, two could be enough.

  • Agricultural Islander BN-2 with cockpit for single pilot moved to a location above the wing, internal fuslage hopper and redesigned nose.
  • BN-2C Upgraded model with Hartzell three-bladed scimitar propellers, an enlarged baggage door and avionics upgrades.
  • Mosquito COIN Defender based on the BN-2T featuring a raised cockpit and retractable undercarriage.
  • BN-2A Mk.III-5 Trislander As BN-2A Mk.III-2 with sound-proofed cabin, modernised cockpit/interior and new engines.
  • BN-2A Mk.III Trislander M Proposed military version, capable of carrying 17 fully equipped troops over 220 n.m., 13 troops over 650 n.m. or up to 16 parachutists. For maritime roles, it would capable of carrying a range of maritime patrol and search and rescue equipment.
