As a kid i had a French or Belgian military magazine with an article about the Afghan war (may have been another country) featuring a photo of a left behind soviet helicopter fuselage mounted on a truck chassis by the locals to convert it into something like a bus.

I spent several hours trying to locate a picture of it on the web, but couldn't find anything.
I'm quite sure this is not a wrong memory and that i have seen a picture of it in the past.

I hope a member of this forum has the picture in question or can provide a lead where to look for it.

Thanks in advance,
gTg

sadly i have not found it yet
but my google-fu came up with this disturbing Picture:

v42737_African%20technical%20w%20a%20Russian%20Hind%20rocket%20pod.jpg

A Somalia pickup with Hind rocket launcher on it

By the way This is in wrong section
can some one move this in "The Bar" section ?

For something slightly less disturbing, I offer... the Douglas Space Shuttle Cafe. Fully licensed and roadable; and available for your airshow, quinceanera or other special event:

Yeah... except this one was for real!

Actually, most of 'em are for real.

Well, yeah... But I mean it is a real flying machine doing its normal job, which is no longer the case for the Stratocruiser or the Dakota shown above!

Does this mean that you remember a pic like this as well?

Sadly i had to give up my complete collection of books and magazines several years ago due to space constraints.
Thanks to all for the other pictures. The Strarocuriser boat is a nice one!

Edit: And sorry for having posted in the wrong section.

Regards,
gTg

I also remember this pic. AFAIR it was a Mi-8 fuselage.
Thanks for the confirmation.

The magazine where i have seen the picture had "guerre"in its title and was published in the 80ies, but it is not "images de guerre".

EDIT: Title is "Guerres". I found the contact to the person back, that picked up my magazines back then. I hope he still has them.

I think i traced down magazine that should have the picture:

Guerres et conflits d'aujourd'hui, no 6, février 1985
* Le piège afghan
* Les soviétiques en Afghanistan
* La résistance

Unfortunately my google-fu didn't bring up an electronic version of it :(

I have contacted now frankvw (via key pub forum), i see he is member here at SPF as well.

This would be the one I assume - it was from Afghanistan.

Regards,

Greg

UV-32-57, used on the HIND and pretty much every other Soviet ground attack aircraft.

Correction, I think that's actually a UV-16-57. My bad.

On the whole though, I think I'd rather have that than this...

I was about to point that out. I've seen pictures of the 16 round launchers on Mi-2 and Mi-4 gunships and possibly the Mi-8 - but never on a Hind. They tend to be limited to older models of aircraft. I wonder how much smoke it generates when fired from the ground. It would be difficult to sight (and highly inaccurate without the airflow), but it must have considerable shock potential. It is interesting how small the 57mm S-5 are.

Anyway, this thread gives a whole new meaning to "Hippy Bus" and it can't be purchased from VW! "You call that a Hippy Bus? This is a Hippy Bus!" :D
