All I've been able to find out about them is from harrier.org which dates the HS 1187 project at 1970 and describes the studies as having '1 or 2 Pegasus 16C with PCB or 1 x PCB and reheat'.

Interesting to note that the drawing for the -5 variant is dated 29th Sept 1971, the -3 is hard to read but looks like 23rd Sept 1970, -9 looks like 2nd March 1972.

If anyone knows more about these or the -1, -2, -4, -6, -7, -8, or any other variants it would be great to learn more.

The 1187-5 was essentially a scaled up P.1185-9 (pic attached), Kingston's preferred supersonic design to AST.396 powered by the 34,850 lb. thrust Pegasus 15 with PCB. The P.1187-5 was used to illustrate how meeting the AST in full would produce a ridiculously large aircraft. The RAF re-drafted the AST! The P.1187-5 used the much more powerful Pegasus 16 which offered c. 35,000 lb. thrust without PCB, and 46,650 lb with PCB.

The 1187-9 was designed to fully meet all the demands of AST.396 while using the Pegasus 15. Two were needed instead of a single Pegasus 16.

The 1187-3 (and some other variants) were design exercises around the Pegasus 16, which in this instance had a 'clang box' and afterburner, so even more thrust than above!

The 1187-3 looks like a twin-fin Harrier that's been shoved up the backside of a P.1121!
