It seems that Editions Lariviere has added Avions Northrop to its Minidocavia series. Several unknown unbuilt designs would have been added. I have send them an email looking for info.
 
Please share this info when you get it. What other books do they have in this series?
 
By the moment, I have US Naval Fighters and it is a very nice mini book.

I bought a copy of the book. It's 128 pages paperback, and covers all Northrop aircraft from the beginning of Jack Nothrop's career in 1918 until the present day Northrop-Grumman company. Quite a few unbuilt projects are also included. The amount of text for each type is relatively limited - not surprising, if you consider the large scope and small size of the volume. To give you an impression about how deeply any unbuilt projects are covered, here os a scan (in extremely low quality, to avoid copyright violation troubles ;) ) of the sections about the N-167 and N-176 projects.

I also scanned the N-1 to -160 project listing, which is interesting to number addicts like me :).

I don't know any other readily available book about Northrop aircraft, which includes so many unbuilt projects, and so I think it's a valuable addition to my bookshelf. For me, the language is a slight problem :-\, because I had my last French lesson 25 years ago, and absolutely zero practice since then. But this book is a good opportunity to refresh long-lost memories :).

French "Amazon" (www.amazon.fr).

The layout of the site is identical to the amazon.com or amazon.co.uk sites, so you if you have used Amazon before you should have no problems even if you don't speak French.
 
I also recommend the MiniDocavia Vol.22 about Messerschmitt. A lot of information in a nice edited format for only 21 euro!

Unfortunately, some of the older ones, such as the ones on US Navy fighters and other related ones come up "Actuellement indisponible" on Amazon.fr . Any suggestions as to other sources to purchase these books?
 
The French http://www.chapitre.fr/ (specialist of rare/second-hand) may help: 4 MiniDocavia today, including Northrop and Messerschmitt...

Thank you kindly, I'll keep an eye out for the currently unavailable ones that I'm looking for. All those currently listed aren't that much below what Amazon.fr lists as the price.

MiniDocavia Nº21 (Northrop) is at my desk. It's greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat ::). I also purchased a one year subscription to Le Fana.

I hope Editions Lariviere could start a full series of manufacturer monografics.

They do. In the larger (heavier, pricier) Docavia series they run Lockeed, Grumman and Vought. I own the last two, not so much on unbuilt projects but very in-deep coverage on built types and in the Vought one a full list of projects numbers. In the MiniDocavia Northrop, the list ends with project N-160...., but there was REAL stuff a few numbers later... N-184 and N-191!!!!
BTW, definitively Edition Lariviere has privileged coverage of manufacturers with products with strong links with France: Lockeed (Connies); Grumman (and by extension Northrop), E-2s; Vought (Crusaders); Messerchmitt, with a mountain of unbuilt projects, guess from which time (Luftwaffe '46 and now Airbus). Hope they'll go further... What about a book on Martin with the projects that we've seen only as a list? Or NA (the same)?

If you have books about Grumman and Northrop, please could you tell me if there has been illustrated :) (or mentioned :-[) a G-141 and/or a N-141? Thanks...
 
Tophe, nothing in the Northop book: technical fiches jump from N-138 (F-89H) to N-144 (big four engine interceptor). In the project number list N-141 in mentioned as a member of the F-89 family. On the Grumman side, nothing on the G-141 either in the Docavia book nor in the Francillon's one (Putnam). Judging from the sequence, it is placed in the late '50s timeframe.

It is the only list available about this subject but It is a very bad list because several projects are not correctly identified.
In fact I think it is a very bad book :mad:
 
bad or good, exact or inexact, all is equally interesting and please show us.
 
Ok, ok, I'm overwhelmed... BUT, you all have to be patient for some days. Now I'm am happily vacationing on the seaside with only a veeeeery slow GPRS connection, and, sourtout, withoiut scanner and Vought's book.... I'll have them on hand for a few hours on Wedneday next week (26th, I think). So be patient and you'll have your list!

N-149-----Reacteur XJ-79,It not the truth.
N-149-----it long range interceptor, scaled down version of N-126, two J79 engines.

The whole book?! No, sorry, I can't do that. It's copyrighted material, and while I guess it's OK to scan a few pages to illustrate the general scope and look of the book, scanning everything (even in "low quality") is probably not a really good idea.

The Northrop N-series projects cover 54 pages, which is about 40% of the whole book. That's still a rather large portion, IMHO. To put it in a nutshell, I'd scan a few pages about specific projects, but not a whole block of pages, which covers a significant part of the whole work.

If is in book Avions Northrop(Minidocavia) about projects Model N-53, N-59, N-60 and N-65 (figures, 3-views dravings and specifications) if it is possible please show us.

There are two copyright concessions to stay legal:
a. up to 10% done yourself or for you by a licensed library for your own private and non-commercial use for 'research or private study'
b. small amounts for publication as part of a review. (an extended quote is intended. I guess a page or two at most, scanned)
You could ask for permission to do more for out of print works obtainable from a library. there may be a fee, but its worth asking nicely if you don't want to be a pirate.
Any way, multiple copies are out except with express permission.
 
I got Avions Northrop for about 33 Euro with S&H total from Amazon.fr, that is about 43 bucks...hm, I feel rather disapointed...say I expected more...but may be I wanted too much. Don't expect all N- numbers covered, there are gaps of course, and many model numbers are just have photos without any 3-views. My dissapointment lowered after I went to Amazon.com and found Modland Counties books prices ruined...ordered couple of dozens.

Now that is what I call an obscure topic!

Assuming that it had received funding from the Tories, the BAC 311 would suffered from setbacks in the RB.211 program, much like the Lockheed L1011.

Still, any high bypass ratio engined, widebody airliner would have had been prospects than the Concorde.

I can't comment on the viablity of a widebody transport with aft engines. Today it seems like an odd configuration, but it is easy to forget this was an era dominated by aft engined airliners such as the 727, DC-9, Trident, VC-10 and Caravelle - not to mention the BAC One-Eleven.
