Hi,

Kitten is Cerulean Freight Forwarding Company's entry for the X-Prize. It is a small
craft that will use 3 rocket engines (LOX + propane or methane) for power. Its design
is pretty simple unlike the Ascender, Xvan and CosmosMariner, which also have jet
engines on board.

Pictures below were in the media section of the CFF's long since defunct website www.thriftyspace.com.

Kitten was named after the Robert A. Heinlein character "Kitten" in the short story "Our Fair City." The planned dimensions of the Kitten were 4.0 M tall, 5.0 M wide and 6.5 M long.

If the Kitten was successful CFFC planned two subsequent larger orbital versions:

  • Calico: a short stay LEO vehicle capable of carrying 9 people or 2 tonnes of payload
  • Angora: a much larger vehicle capable of sustaining 40 people in LEO for up to two weeks

Both vehicles were designed to use a metallic wire mesh parafoil to assist in reentry.

The attached sketch is the only image I know of for either vehicle. Does any one have any more details?
