Those concepts were real studies for aircrafts or just fantasy airships for sci-fi movies?

there some impressive...

I think that Rockwell International paid Daniel Raymer not for sci-fi movie scetches. You probably know that he was Rockwell's ATF entry chief designer.

This is Rockwell's genious Dan Raymer design of so-called 'Low-Cost Simplistic Aircraft' bomber aka ISADS, one of more carefully studied during 1979 'Manned strategic system concepts 1990-2000' study.

Look here as well for other concepts studied.

If you want, I will add more pictoriial info to Rockwell studies thread.

Dan is very interesting person - his wife has russian roots and he even has course of his lectures in Moscow Aviation Institute in post-Perestroika period.

From the late '70's. Subsonic, minimal stealth, geometrically simple with constant sections. Also included is a hydrogen fueled version. Source grade "5."

Other info on 1979 Rockwell's study for 1999-2000 Manned Strategic Systems Concepts is here http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,362.0.html
This is, of course, doesn't match Scott's brilliant final drawings, but makes insight on other aspects of the study.

Scott - is this a spare set or a part of upcoming eAPR article?

BTW, Dan Raymer is somewhere here AFAIK...

This is what Flateric posted about the design in question:

http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,362.msg4634.html#msg4634

The engines look like medium bypass types, with nacelles similar in general appearance, if not size, to the JT8D - but obviously well over twice the output?

I would think that the only way to build a "low cost" bomber would be to employ an existing turbofan?

'Tom, didn't you see these Flankers at 2? - Hmm, all I see is our bloody big H2 tank...Ouch...Eject! Eject!'

Uh, I was hoping you were working at a recapitulation of spanloader concepts... like the BWBs in eAPR n.3. I'm doing it for myself as far as the 1970's NASA sponsored projects... I'll post something in the near future.

DAMN!!!!!!

It seems like the best way to make progress is to simply give up. After years of putting together scraps on things like the delta spanloader, and forging up a reconstruction, *today* I get in the mail a Rockwell document via FOIA that lays out the drawings in nice, neat, clear, unambiguous lines. The delta as well as the other designs that Flateric ppsted back in August '06.

And boy was I wrong about the Minimum Penetration Time design side view.

Back to the freakin' drawing board...

Some layout drawings. Don't worry... "US Bomber Projects" will have full-rez versions...

Wow, those are awesome drawings. Where did you locate them, or is that "Proprietary?" You may also have to sell high res versions on CD :) . I had no idea a drawing of the scissor wing bomber that detailed existed. Now if we could only find one for the scissor wing design that is, similar to that Rockwell design, by Boeing.

Those are the end results of several years worth of Freedom of Information Act requests.

I have a *lot* of high-rez bomber stuff that I think would sell on CD. B ut I want to get the book out before I go and dump all the research for it...

While I know that roughly equivalent work was put into the Boeing concept, I don't think I've seen references to the actual reports.

So, not to get too far off topic, how is the bomber book coming along? Will we see it this year?

Depends on how broad-minded you are on how you define a "year."

Great find, Overscan!

Mmmmm, it seems that when you ask a non-free printed report in NIST or DTIC or CASI-NASA they exploit the search you pay fr to scan it and make it available for free online.... this has already happened to me. Curious policy.

I guess in my turn that these recent declassified reports online somehow related to Orionblamblam's requests...and efforts
