I know also anther early Comet design as a small jet aircraft with
rear mounted engines.
 
You're right hesham, the original DH106 project was a small postal-passenger jet based on the Vampire layout. Lark sent me the original drawing, I produced a sketch from it and Tophe made the beautiful art attached with this post. (It was an example of international cooperative research in the times before secretprojects forum ;))

A canard layout project also existed an was described and illustrated in Air International. Later, the project evolved into a new concept for a bigger airliner jet and that is the DH.106 Comet that entered History.

One of the first designs,I think, was for a tailless aircraft, the quite large
wing of the later designs was still reminiscent of this.
Have a drawing of it, somewhere .. ???

I find this one in an old issue of the "Trait d'Union" (a French magazine) from a 3V drawing first published by "Air International".

What is the source of your Comet info?

One of the first Concepts after the one shown us by Pometablava
was a Canard lay-out with the engines grouped in the tail.
After this came a tailless design and an other highly swept winged concept.
Strange they all beared the same D.H Comet designator...

I've been reading Orionblamblam's post about "sourcegrading" and I think I should classify that Tophe's reconstruction I posted here with sourcegrade 2

AvWeek, 12 Apr 1954:

"Royal Air Force is considering the use of Comet jet transports as aerial tankers for the Vulcan, Valiant and Victor bombers when BOAC replaces them with later model Comets"

Flight, 11 Feb 1955. Following the withdrawal of Comet 1s from commercial service:

"It is also likely that existing Comet 1s will be used as R.A.F. tankers, unpressurized or with a low differential."
