The Clydesman indeed.Nice find...

Re: Blackburn B-49 flying boat

10 engined, I think, same as Saro (P.162) SR.45 Princess. Coupled ?RR Tweed -who has the Putnam?

Re: Blackburn B-49 flying boat

6 x RR RB.39 Clyde engines according to AIR PICTORIAL March 1982.

Re: Blackburn B-49 flying boat

the 'Flight' articles also says six engined...

cheers,
Robin.

Re: Blackburn B-49 flying boat

Putnam also lists it at 6 engines.

202' span, 148' oa with hull and tail unit like the Sunderland. All up weight 138 tons, cruise 270 mph, with 160 passengers, range 2,500 miles.

Re: Blackburn B-49 flying boat

You can see the evolution of the Clydesman project from the front-page advertisements that Blackburn had on the cover of Flight through 1944 and 1945. Here are three of them

Patent for the B-49B concept here

That seems remarkably short-coupled, more a tandem than a canard. I can't help thinking there would be acoustic problems, with the propellers so close to the foreplane trailing edge.

cheers,
Robin.

Proximity of the propellers to the canard was the whole point, all explained in the patent
