Bell/Boeing QTR scale model from scratch

Hi guys and gals!!!

This is my last adventure, a model inspired by Bell-Boeing's QTR (Quad Tilt-Rotor), the successor to V-22.

I call it StormWind, and this is what it looks like:

It is mainly made of paper.

BEHIND THE SCENES.......


Found a couple (well, more than a couple) photos of the subject:

Went to town in my unassembled AC-130

Covered it with old newspapers clippings, all wetted in a solution of 2 parts white glue+1 part water

Primered for the first time

Then made the engines and prop spinners from the ones in a 1/72 kit V-22. They were cast in auto body repair resin in plasticine molds

The two sets of wings come from V-22 kits in 1/72 and 1/48

These are the resin+balsa engines

Then it was coverd in bondo auto body putty and sanded untill my arms fell off

That was all.

You have far more patience than I do.
 
Rafael, did you find scale drawings as well?
Ogival tail stuff is from 2000 Bell-Textron papers, beaver tail is later one. Oh, according to Bell-Textron plans, we should already have three AVs flying in the mid of 2007!)

Yes, it took a lot of patience an sanding, I was at it for all this week. Planning took twice that.

Flateric, I didn't have access to scale drawings, but I had the overall measures. At a lenght of 1063.1 inches, or 27 meters, the model should measure something in the vicinity of 37,5 centimeters, so I measured the C-130 and made the paper model to 35 centimeters, going the rest of the lenght with a balsa "beaver tail". Wingspan is very close, too.

Bell has always been a very optimistic aircraft company...

QTR is still rolling at least today.
 
Well, optimistic or not, the guys at Bell-Boeing inspired this Venezuelan guy. Who would have thought that such an advanced concept could materialize over here?

Bell Boeing are now offering two Quad Tilt-Rotor designs for JHL. The original, with C-130 sized cabin and payload, and a larger version if the Army needs it, with an A440M sized cabin and payload (Same range for both versions).
 
Any news on the QTR/V-44 program? Is it still going on?
