Talk about a spooky coincidence!

No sooner had I posted the model maker photo than I opened a folder and out dropped the Ecology Airship press release from Myasishchev (Farnborough September 1994), the year the M-55 was displayed.

Is the "Ecology" another name for the 2DP ?

These are wonderful!

I especially like how he aimed to combine Lifting Gas with Helicopter Technology!

I just bought a pdf copy of the new edition (2019) of "Aircraft of V.M. Myasishcheva – Aircraft and Vertostats, Record Aircraft,” by Konstantin Udalov & Josef Gatyal for 40 Euros. It includes the high quality graphics that were in the first edition and shown above in the post from ucon and much more. My point-of-contact was Marek Rys, who works with Kostia Udalov. If you are interested in this book (in Russian), you can contact Marek here: mrys3d@gmail.com

Marek said the following books (in Russian) also are available as pdf files:

Izmailov and his planes - 30 euro
Yakovlev and his planes (few very early designs of Yakovlev) - 30 euro
Korchagin and his planes - 30 euro
Rafaelianz and his planes - 30 euro
Bartini vol 1 - 50 euro
Bertini vol 2 - 50 euro
Bartini vol 4 - 40 euro

I paid via PayPal and the pdf copy was delivered by online service WeTransfer.

To us bookworms...with new titles...and old shoes. Greens may give new life to airships.

Greens may give new life to airships.

Not unless they can do it at a reasonable cost. Airships are just not going to be more than ambitious ideas without government-level funding. The infrastructure doesn't exist to support their regular operation and they simply can't operate at normal airports. The entire operation of airships is a lost art and is something that firms like Zeppelin NT are relearning, but options for widespread use are virtually non-existent as a result. Take a look at the Goodyear blimp and its appearance at Oshkosh for example, the helium has to be trucked everywhere the airship goes because it loses helium during every flight and even when its left overnight with temp and pressure changes - helium is very expensive, with personnel kept near the airship at all times, meaning they have to sleep on-site when overnighting, there's a specialist ground crew required to handle it and can only be kept outdoors in the calmest weather. We might be waiting a long time before we see private enterprise airships in commercial operations...
