The Northrop N-251 was a supersonic VTOL interceptor concept with trapezoid wings, twin forward engines and vectored lift thrust at the CG, much like the Bell X-14 and DuPont DP-1/-2. Factory model is shown here.

N-251, V/STOL operational demonstration aircraft


Might be a technology demonstrator for VTOL technology in support of GOR-169 I guess.


Timing-wise its OK - N-250 was the Northrop X-21 which started construction around 1960 so could have been a project in 1958/1959.
