I seem to remember reading that Dassault was a consultant on Vought's design.

Maybe they were "linked" by the Aeronavale?
Dassault had the Super Etendard, Etendard IV and the like. The French navy bought Voughts aircrafts for many years (starting in 1939 with the V-156, then Corsairs in the 50's, Crusaders in 1965 and A-7 studies in 1972...).

ISTR seeing the same info. IIRC, Dassault's input was regarding VG info from the Mirage G series. Maybe Vought's VFX was the 'ultimate Mirage G' in Dassault's eyes.

Strange, but the Vought submission seems not having any three views. ???

Yes- the tailplane has a hinge in it and angles downwards. There's a nice drawing in Le Mirage F1 et les Mirage de seconde generation a voilure en fleche (Liebert & Buyck)

Hi guys! First post. Here are some drawings of the Vought V507 with GE engines from the Vought Retiree Club. I checked all that I could find on this site for image size guidelines and did not find them. I hope the images are not too large.

Nice add-on! Thanks, Bill!

Thanks, Bill. Possibly the best first post ever :) For future reference, you should stick to 600-700 pixels for scans from published books. For other materials (like this) you can post as large as you like.

This design is overall very similar to the V-507 with TF30 illustrated in American Secret Projects except in the rear fuselage, as you would imagine.

Thanks for the kind words. I got the during a visit to the Vought Archives.
They were from an executive brief on the program along with weapons loadout
configs and the same three views with Pratt engines.

I will try to be mindful of the posting sizes, thanks!

bill

Sure thing, Bill.

If you have a drawing that is not from a published book, you have permission for, or is your own work, you can absolutely post higher resolutions. Weapons config loadouts would also be appreciated, along with any information you can share.

Great to see you posting here Bill - welcome aboard!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Here is the V507 with just the vertical folded. Note how the vertical rotates to the right and then folds over to save space. Material from Vought Retiree Club.

Very interesting. That might be an either/or proposition - reduce height to conform to the 17 1/2 foot hangar height of Midway-class and earlier or minimize spot factor (projected area relative to a baseline, e.g. the A-7) and assume that the aircraft would only be operated from Forrestal and subsequent carriers that had a 25 foot hangar height.

Thanks Gregory - sure is fun to hunt this stuff and I am very, very lucky to have the access I've had to the Vought Archives. And looking forward to another trip this spring!

Thanks to BillS too for introducing me to the Frontier's of Flight Curator, Chris Woodul. There's more goodies there to be found!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

There's some closer view of this mockup in the Docavia "les avions Voughts" (don't know if I can scan and post them here ??!! )

Read Dassault help Vought on this program (with Mirage G) ... anyone have an information ?

Complete history of the collaboration between Vought and Dassault in 1968 in "Le Mirage F1" Vol.1 by Lela Press (already cited in the Forum a lot of times). In summary, Dassault signed in 1968 two MoU with Vought on collaboration in advanced aircarft design. One of the MoU specified that a small group of French technician transferred for two months and half (half July - 1st September 1968 chez Vought). The collaboration was mainly on data of the Mirage G flight tests, on the engine installation (the TF-306 of the G was a derivative of the TF-30 intended for the VFX-A), the solutions devised for the inlet, the pivot and the glove of the VG wing and solution for control systems. In the end, the V-507 used a control system very similar to that used in the Mirage G. The rest was completely different. Simultaneously, Dassault in France designed an airplane following the VFX-A specs. This produced the so-called Mirage G-5/V-100. I don't post images due to copyright reasons.

Will see in French archives information on VFX/Dassault program ;)
(found some information on AFVG program )

Not a lot of material to be found on the V-505 specifically.
Here are a few drawings from a Design Study.
Vought Archives.

You'll find a top view, of what appears to me as more or less the same drawing, in Liébert/Buyck,
"Le Mirage F1", page 151.
