Another interesting Hughes AAH picture - in packed form. Original specifications also called for using of ejector seats and carrying additional antitank missiles internaly, so the helicopter should be re-armed during short landing. Mi-24 crews do it sometimes.

Well, I mean I want some pix of YAH-64 that tailplane not on the top of tail whereas on the buttom of tail. Showing like"⊥".
 
The fixed low-tail YAH-64 never flew. The first prototype was so fitted but after some wind-tunnel tests the low fixed horizontal stabilator was found unsuited and was immediately changed in a high fixed one. So, the only way to see it on the prototype is to find a picture of the roll-out. In 20 years I've seen none :(

Which is the prototype pictured, AV02 or AV03 ? To me the number on the side of the cockpit read O2.

I found this photo in Scale Models magazine, January 1974.

Yeah, and in fact if you can take the time to download the whole collection (which obviously will take quite a while) you'll find a lot of interesting stuff.

, if you have anything more on the subject Matej :p Do we know how many additional missiles it was intended to carry and where within the helicopter they were carried - internally? externally?.......

Would be interesting to know how much weight growth has occurred between the original Hughes Model 77 prototype, to that of the production / operational standard AH-64A, if anyone has these figures!

Looks so different without the sponsons up front and the smooth nose minus the Pilot's Night Vision sensor.

There is an old saying that aircraft, like people, put on more weight as they get older. I have heard as much as 100 lbs./year. An easy number to remember, but possibly a bit high.
I can say that AH-64D (and E) are significantly heavier than the original "A" model. IF the T901 engine is acquired for US Army helicopters, it will be the third engine upgrade for Apache (T700/T701/T901).
The transition from YAH-64 to AH-64A was significant with the addition of the Hellfire missile and associated systems (from TOW) and the TADS/PNVS. There were additional navigation and communications requirements as well. I may be recalling incorrectly but I also believe the armoring of the aircraft also was increased due to the large increase in tactical air defenses anticipated to be on the battlefield.

I wonder at what point after Hughes was selected to build the YAH-64 did they discover "wow there are a lot more avionics to cram into this thing than we thought" which led to the side bays on the forward fuselage?

Probably right around the time the Army told them that AGM-114 Hellfire was to be the primary weapon system.
