Designations of Romanian Designs by Inginerul Iosif Silimon
_____________________________
IS (Iosif Silimon) Series Designations
While employed as an IAR Brasov engineer in 1949, Iosif Silimon completed his first glider built at and for the Aeroclubul Sânpetru (Sânpetru was a small village neighboring Brasov). The designation may have been IS-1-2 but was more likely IS-2.
Production and development of Iosif Silimon's designs were then undertaken by the successors to IAR-Brasov, URMV-3 (Uzinele de Reparatii Material Volant-3, 1950-1959) and ICA Brasov (Intreprinderea de Constructii Aeronautice).
These gliders and aircraft all retained the IS prefix until very lately when IAR designations (and re-designations) began to appear.
